Travel insurance guide

Answer a few questions about your trip to see what coverage actually matters, then compare providers.

Coverage guide

What travel insurance do you actually need?

What to look for
  • Emergency medical coverage limit (aim for at least $100,000; more for the US specifically, where care is expensive).
  • Emergency medical evacuation coverage: separate from regular medical, and often the single biggest real-world payout.
  • Trip cancellation/interruption coverage. You said you'd want to protect ~$2,000 in non-refundable costs.

Either provider is a reasonable starting point, so compare their exact policy wording against the checklist above.

Kenya

All visitors

Non Kenyans entering Kenya for under 12 months must hold inbound travel health insurance with at least USD 50,000 in cumulative benefits.

The approved administrative framework was published by the Ministry of Health in November 2025. Secondary media reported a High Court suspension in August 2026, but no suspension order took effect; the High Court in Marsabit has since upheld the requirement, dismissing the constitutional petition and ruling Gazette Notice No. 11492 (July 30, 2026) valid under the Social Health Insurance Act (reported by Eastleigh Voice, 2026-10-08). The row ships as in force. Enforcement escalated October 2026: portal tests (VisasNews via deeparrival, 2026-10-06) show the official eTA application cannot be completed until a valid inbound policy is linked (US$44 per traveler plus fees; no upload path for foreign-insurer certificates was offered in the tests), and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority's Oct 9, 2026 Aeronautical Information Circular directs airlines on international flights into Kenya to verify compliance before boarding (reported by hivileo.co.ke).

Minimum coverage: USD 50,000 cumulative benefits · Exemptions: Kenyan citizens. Applies to non Kenyans entering for under 12 months.
